Overview

The CDC seeks a talented and creative Graduate Assistant to assist with maintaining and growing our career closet resource, Cheryl’s Closet. This position provides the opportunity to contribute within a dynamic, professional, student-focused office and gain valuable hands-on experience advising students one-on-one and presenting to groups of students. Our ideal candidate will be able to work independently with direction and have the ability to take initiative. We mentor our graduate assistants for continued professional growth and expect our graduate assistants to display the utmost responsibility, diligence, and enthusiasm.

Requirements

Education:

  • The successful candidate must have completed a bachelor’s degree and possess a high degree of cultural competence
  • All majors are welcome to apply, but preference will be given to candidates with a background in retail, fashion merchandising, marketing, and/or customer service

Experience:

  • Experience working with people and presenting to groups
  • Interest in the fashion industry, knowledge of how to fit professional clothing
  • Familiarity with expectations for professional dress expectations in a variety of business settings

Qualities & Skills:

  • Outgoing, friendly, ability to connect with people
  • Extremely reliable and dependable with professional attitude and appearance
  • Strong writing skills and experience writing content for social media
  • Experience creating and delivering public presentations
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment, with both full-time staff and student employees, and possibly supervise undergraduate student(s)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions and initiate new programs
  • Other desirable (but not necessary) skills might include: assisting with special events, photography and photo editing skills

Essential Functions

  • Receive, sort, and manage in-kind donations; display sample outfits (50%)
  • Take student appointments for Cheryl’s Closet when available (15%)
  • Create and publish #TransformationTuesday social media posts (15%)
  • Create and deliver group presentations as requested (10%)
  • Support CDC and other Student Experience department events as needed (10%)

Compensation

Graduate Assistantship (5 hours/week)

Duration

Academic year (August – May)
